INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS TO PUBLISHING IN FUNCTIONAL PLANT BREEDING JOURNAL - FPBJ

Online Submission of Manuscripts: Authors are requested to submit their manuscripts to Functional Plant Breeding Journal - FPBJ - online. Please log on to the site http://www.fpbjournal.com and upload your cover letter (word format) and all files following the onscreen instructions. Manuscripts should be submitted by the corresponding author.

Scope: The FPBJ – Functional Plant Breeding Journal – constitutes an important instrument for the publication of original research papers related to plant breeding. The FPBJ aims to publish original research papers focusing on the cultivar development. In this sense, it covers topics related to germplasm and breeding methods such as recurrent selection, backcrossing, mating designs, breeding programs. It also comprises methodological, statistical, computational and molecular advances when used in the context of the cultivar development. The FPBJ covers all annual and perennial crop species.

Publishing charges: Articles published in the Functional Plant Breeding Journal are free of charge.

The manuscript should be arranged as follows: Manuscripts for submission must be written in English. Authors whose native language is not English are strongly recommended to use a scientific English-editing service to improve the manuscript prior to submission to Functional Plant Breeding Journal. The Title should include full title, the name(s) of the author(s) (there is no limits for the number of authors), their affiliation and the name and phone/E-mail of the corresponding author to whom proofs and requests for offprints should be sent. The Abstract should be not more than 250 words. This should concisely describe, respectively, the problem being addressed in the paper, how the study was performed, the salient results and what the authors conclude from the results. The magnitude of Keywords should be range three to six keywords characterizing the content of the paper. The Introduction should contain statements about the reasons for doing the work and a concise analysis of the essential background. The Materials and Methods should provide sufficient information and references on the techniques adopted to permit their replication. The Results should permit full comprehension of the data reported in figures and tables. The Discussion should underline the significance of the results and place them in the context of previous research. The Results and Discussion could be merged in a single section. The Acknowledgements should be insert if appropriate. The References in the text should be in full if they have one or two authors (e.g.: Author, 2017; Author and Author, 2017); in the case of multiple authors they should be cited as Author et al., 2017. In the reference list, periodicals [1], books [2], multi-author books [3, 4] and Software [5] should be arranged in alphabetical order with the following examples:

1 Resende, M.D.V.de; Ramalho, M.A.P.; Guilherme, S.R.; Abreu, A.F.B. 2015. Multigeneration index in the within progenies bulk method for breeding of self-pollinated plants. Crop Science, 55(3):1202-1211.

Preparation of Manuscript: The manuscript must be typed in Word for Windows, in times new roman 12 font, double spacing, format A4, with 20 mm margins and consecutive top right numbering. The double spaced text must not exceed 25 pages, including separately placed Tables and Figures (one a page, the total number of figures and tables must not be more than 8) in the end of text. All the equations, models and symbols should be made in Microsoft Equation. Figures should be avoided in 3D dimension. The Photographs dimensions should be appropriate for reduction, as described for figures. The Tables should be self-contained and complement, but not duplicate, information contained in the text. The Tables should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals. The Units are required to use the International System of Units (SI). The mathematical formulae must be carefully typed, possibly using the equation editor. When a paper contains several equations, they should be identified with a number in parentheses (e.g. Eq. 1).
